Summary
In the famous novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn young Huckleberry goes on many adventures as he grows up. The novel starts off when Huck is living with the Widow Douglas and her sister Miss Watson. He is well taken care of but he doesn’t like that they push religion and attempt to make him civilized. During his time with the Widow he often sneaks out to spend time with the infamous Tom Sawyer (From Mark Twain’s novel Tom Sawyer). They start a brotherhood and pretend to rob and pillage the town. Soon Huck’s drunken father arrives and steals him away to a small cabin in the woods where they fend for themselves. Before long Huck becomes unhappy with Pap’s alcohol induced rage and comes up with an ingenious plan to get away. He sets up a fake murder scene with a dead wild hog and sets off down the river in a canoe he had earlier found. He soon lands at a small island where he finds Jim, Miss Watson’s African-American slave, who had also runaway. From then on until the end of the novel Huck Finn and Jim were inspirable and Huck learned to respect African-Americans as humans and that they should be free. The two go on many adventures and in the end Jim gains his freedom and Huck goes off on his own to be a free spirit.

Likes & Dislikes
I really enjoyed this novel. The story line was excellent and I really like how Twain did tons of research to learn the characters’ language. I didn’t like the length. I felt like it just went on and on and on. It totally could have ended way earlier. But I really enjoy Twain’s style of writing.
